Job Description: Summary:

Responsible for developing and growing long-term customer relationships that will ensure increased sales and customer satisfaction within a defined area and / or market in accordance with corporate goals and focusing on profitability. Experience and knowledge managing or selling services within the shipping industry.


Essential Duties:
  • Complete all tasks and assignments demonstrating customer service principles.
  • Manage a group of assigned accounts, developing sales strategies which will increase revenues and add new customers within an assigned market / area.
  • Work in concert with area general management to maximize account penetration and develop customer service strategies, ensuring long term business relationships and contracts.
  • Prospect regularly for new customers and determine innovative utilization of selling techniques and opportunities, producing new business.
  • Serve as an integral link with customers determining market and customer needs, new product / service ideas and competitive information and provides the information to the Corporate Sales Department and area management.
  • Develop and execute sales goals, meeting or exceeding these approved goals.
  • Draft bids, proposals and negotiate contracts for new business in accordance with financial and operational guidelines and requirements, ensuring profitable, long-term business relationships.
  • Provide documentation of sales calls and meetings to the Senior VP via weekly reports, completing reports accurately and submitting them according to schedule.
  • Represent Ports America at trade shows, professional and industry associations, generating potential sales leads and obtaining marketing information.
  • Possess full knowledge of Ports America services and union contracts and keeps current of industry trends.
  • Work closely with appropriate area staff ensuring their thorough understanding of customer contracts.
  • Complete other projects as assigned.
Requirements:   Requirements: 
  • 10 years experience in executive sales role.
  • B.S. Degree, MBA preferred.
  • Ability to understand terminal operations, planning and stevedore operations principles.
  • Experience with industry-related labor contracts.
  • Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of industry-related regulatory codes and requirements.
  • Experience with profit and loss principles.
  • Experience managing related operations or selling services within shipping industry.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively with diverse customers and market bases.
  • Requires the physical ability to maneuver on a ship, terminal yard and area buildings and terminals.
