Job Description:



Reporting to the Director of Solutions Delivery, the incumbent will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the Company’s quality and testing programs and processes. Will provide consulting for software development and operations processes, quality practices, quality audits and software measurements to product development and operations teams. Apply specialized business knowledge, testing experience and technical skills for medium to large projects that involve multiple IT departments and business units.  Execute test scripts including the identification and gathering of appropriate test data and ensure sufficient test coverage and risk mitigation to the Information Technology department and Company. Works closely with business users to determine priorities and facilitate decisions regarding testing.  


Key Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains a quality plan that defines all actions, deliverables, responsibilities and procedures to satisfy the user/customer quality and validation/qualification requirements.
  • Conducts internal studies and  audits on client and product development and operations team activities to evaluate if processes and deliverables fulfill the requirements for quality, uncover errors or deficiencies in processes and deliverables and identify strengths and opportunities for improvement; studies and audits include issues such as profitability, productivity, and quality.
  • Participate in full test cycle on various software and systems including: Unit Testing, Integrated System Testing, and User Acceptance Testing(UAT).
  • Develops test plans, test cases, test scripts and test reports on multiple work efforts of varying sizes.
  • Monitor testing progress, provide status reports and escalate issues to project management and management and other project participants regarding testing efforts.
  • Support testing efforts, including but not limited to functional, system integration and regression determined necessary for assigned work efforts.
  • Reviews functional and technical requirement documents to ensure requirements are testable.
  • Validates that user expectations are achieved during the testing process.
  • Documents and reports defects for the work efforts being tested.
  • Identifies and communicates business risks relative to testing and implementation for evaluation.
  • Works with business analysts, project managers, developers and end users to determine the most effective testing and inspection strategy for work efforts of varying complexity and size.
  • Ensures that defects uncovered in the test are recorded, summarized and utilized in post reviews in an effort to improve the development and test processes.
  • Provides detail status reporting on work efforts (including test case numbers, percentages complete, etc.).
  • Provides direction and mentoring to test analysts in the execution of test scripts and interaction with business users.
  • Must adhere to pertinent laws, regulations, First Niagara’s Compliance Policy and external compliance requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science or Information Systems Management, MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years experience in applications support and testing & quality assurance management with an emphasis on process improvement, quality and risk assessments, quality audits and studies.
  • In-depth knowledge and use of process improvement and quality management methods, tools, and technology used to create and support defect-free, application software or business operations processes.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience conducting risk analyses, quality assessments, audits and implementing successful process improvement programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles, processes, phases and roles of application development methodologies and software development life cycles (SDLC).
  • Working knowledge of software testing methodology.
  • Working knowledge of full lifecycle development, including the ability to perform requirements tracing and validations during Quality Control testing.
  • Ability to analyze and retain requirements from IT personnel, clients and anyone involved with the implementation of the applications involved.
  • Experience performing widespread analysis, error fix, recording and validating solutions that support client business process.
  • Ability to coordinate knowledge transfer amongst Business Analysts and Developers.
  • Ability to create and interpret process maps and flowcharts
  • Familiarity with all aspects of Quality Control testing of software, including unit, system integration, functional, and regression testing.
  • Coordinate amongst business representatives during UAT stage and identify risks and dependencies or proposed releases.
  • Experience preferred in performing Quality Control Testing using industry standard enterprise testing tools.
  • Strong skills in writing SQL for data validation (Oracle/SQL).
  • Strong analytical and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Business Analysis tools: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Change Management, Project Management tools (MS Project), basic database query language usage, time tracking tools, Use Case/UML, advanced quality assurance (QA) tool usage for test case development, execution, and defect tracking/issue tracking software
